More Voices, New Spaces
What's happening this month, and an open call to help us create something new for our community.
Thank you to those who answered our survey earlier this week. I am still mulling over the answers; you have given me much to think about and to plan. I will also address some of the questions asked in due time, but in the meantime we have fabulous events scheduled for this month which you can view (and sign up to) below. For those who would still like to offer feedback on our survery to help us with event planning, you can submit your answers here.
A New Way to Connect & Collaborate
Last week we hosted an event with to showcase its new chapbook, Boy Apparition published with Vinegar Press, which came out recently, and we had such great fun in this wonderful session. Thank you to all those who joined and supported mk with this amazing achievement. It also confirmed a powerful need to create a space for us to actively support each other in getting our voices out there.
This has inspired me to create a dedicated Community Board on the redrosethorns website. I am envisioning a curated, central hub for our community to share things like:
Your Virtual Events: Writing workshops, readings, or discussions.
Your Publications: New book or zine launches for others to discover and purchase.
To keep it focused and valuable, all shared work will connect to our core themes of mental health, self-care, gender, and sexuality, except if it is a writing event, we can broaden this to not be so focused on the subject material we discuss here.
I’m Looking for Early Contributors!
Before I officially launch, I’m looking for a few community members to help me build the first version. If you have an event or publication you’d like to be featured, please reply to this email directly with your idea.
A small fee will be involved to maintain the quality of the board and ensure listings are current, but my main goal right now is to see if this is a valuable resource for you. Listings will also be featured for a limited time to keep the board fresh and dynamic.
Speaking of sharing your work, did you know we offer space for advertisements in our magazines? If you have a business or project that aligns with our community’s values, we’d be happy to share our media kit and discuss possibilities.
(Please note: spaces are very limited for advertisments and strictly vetted, as we detest the culture of overconsumption and constant marketing bombardment. Our main focus is to get your writing/work out into the world, but we gotta eat too.)
Now back to the main programme…
November Events
Writing for Healing: A Guided Workshop
15 November | 11 am PST / 2 pm EST / 7 pm GMT
This is a workshop not necessarily focused on writing but how writing is a powerful tool used for our own healing. It’s a gentle, guided space where we can untangle our thoughts together, no writing “skill” required, just a willingness to show up for yourself.
In this session, you will:
Learn foundational techniques for using writing as a healing practice.
Be guided through gentle, reflective prompts in a safe and supportive space.
Connect with your inner voice in a new and powerful way.
Leave with a personal writing resource to continue your journey.
Deconstructing Imposter Syndrome: A Masterclass
22 November | 11 am PST / 2 pm EST / 7 pm GMT
Does anyone else struggle with a horrid little voice in their mind trying to put them down? Same. But I have also found ways to silence these thoughts and reframe their message. This masterclass is the toolkit I wish I’d had years ago. If you ever feel like a fraud waiting to be found out, please join me. Let’s learn to quiet that voice together.
In this session, you’ll:
Identify the 5 core triggers of your imposter phenomenon.
Interrupt the cycle of self-doubt with a proven cognitive framework.
Reframe your inner critic from a saboteur into a manageable observer.
Build an evidence-based “Accomplishment Log” to combat moments of doubt in real-time.
Open Mic Night: Finding Your Joy
29 November | 12 pm PST / 3 pm EST / 8 pm GMT
This might be my favourite event of the month. There’s something magical about the vulnerability and support in this space. Whether you’re sharing your words or just listening, come be part of our community. I promise you’ll leave feeling a little lighter.
I’m especially delighted that we’ll be featuring two incredible writers published with us, Jae J Casella and Carole Greenfield, who will be sharing their work as our headliners. It’s going to be a wonderful.
Note: When you sign up for the event, you’ll automatically be included as a potential speaker. At the start of the gathering, we’ll do a quick check-in to confirm who’d like to share, so if you’d prefer to just listen, no problem! This way, we can make sure everyone who wants to read gets their moment.
